Short Description
An outstanding opportunity exists to join a global market leader and dominant force in the Australian gaming market.
IGT is the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of gaming products and systems. IGT Australia provides a range of gaming products, systems and services to the Club, Hotel and Casino industries.
We are searching for an exceptional Senior Technical Artist to join our Sydney Game Studio and help a small, highly collaborative team create compelling land-based slot games and player experiences.
Location: Macquarie Park, NSW
Responsibilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Partnering with the Game Designer, Software Engineer and project stakeholders to establish the aesthetic vision, visual language and overall look and feel for each game.
- Creating concept art, style frames, visualisation artwork and rapid prototypes using your own craft and, where appropriate, approved AI-assisted workflows.
- Defining the complete art and animation asset list, including dependencies, priorities, effort, delivery stages and technical risks.
- Creating clear, comprehensive briefs that give third-party art and animation partners the creative direction, technical specifications and acceptance criteria needed to deliver production-ready assets.
- Integrating, configuring and optimising final art and animation assets within Unity.
External Art Production Management:
- Preparing thorough, production-ready briefs for third-party art and animation partners, supported by visual references, style targets, storyboards, animation lists and clear acceptance criteria.
- Specifying exactly how assets must be supplied, including resolution, colour and alpha requirements, file formats, layer structures, naming conventions, animation timing, looping, export settings and performance budgets.
- Managing external providers through briefing, milestone reviews and final delivery; providing precise, constructive and actionable feedback until the required creative and technical standard is reached.
- Maintaining consistency across internally created, AI-assisted and outsourced assets while protecting the integrity of the approved art direction.
- Communicating progress, dependencies, quality concerns and delivery risks to the project team and stakeholders, and helping balance scope, schedule, quality and performance.
Technical Art and Unity implementation:
- Importing, configuring and implementing final art and animation assets in Unity, including sprites and atlases, materials, shaders, animation systems, Spine content, UI elements, render ordering and real-time particle effects.
- Working closely with the Software Engineer to develop robust implementation approaches and resolve visual, pipeline and runtime issues.
- Optimising content for target hardware through careful management of texture memory, compression, draw calls, overdraw, batching, shader complexity, animation cost and asset loading.
- Using profiling and in-engine testing to identify bottlenecks and ensure that visual quality, stability and responsiveness meet product requirements.
- Maintaining disciplined digital asset management, source-file hygiene and version-control practices throughout development.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for:
- Visual development: Excellent Illustration skills to create convincing concepts and visual targets, supported by responsible use of approved generative-AI tools where suitable.
- Production leadership: proven ability to scope artwork, write detailed briefs, manage external vendors and assess creative and technical quality.
- Unity: strong hands-on experience implementing and optimising 2D art, animation, shaders and effects in production projects.
- Technical judgement: a strong understanding of asset pipelines, file preparation, runtime constraints and performance trade-offs for real-time games.
- Collaboration: a proactive, pragmatic and low-ego approach suited to a small multidisciplinary development team.
Extra bonus points if you have experience with:
- C# scripting, Unity Editor tooling or pipeline automation.
- 3D production workflows in tools such as Maya, 3ds Max or Blender.
- Spine 2D.
- UI/UX, typography, logo design, branding or motion-graphics design.
- Profiling and optimisation for fixed-specification or resource-constrained hardware.
What we offer:
- A small, diverse, respectful and fun team environment where you can do your best work.
- A studio that values your expertise and input, with the security and backing of a global market leader.
- Career and professional development tailored to support your ambition and future success.
- A competitive salary package.
- Flexible work arrangements with a mix of onsite and work-from-home days through the week.
