Overview

We are seeking an accomplished and hands-on culinary leader to join our team as Head Chef, Café & Catering Operations. Based at our Moncton corporate office, this role will lead the culinary direction and day-to-day operations of our employee café and catering services.

 

The Head Chef is responsible for delivering high-quality food, leading a small team, managing inventory and costs, and ensuring a consistent, exceptional customer experience. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong culinary expertise with operational discipline, creativity, and a passion for team development.

What You'll Do

 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the café team while fostering a positive, high-performance environment
  • Oversee daily breakfast and lunch service, including à la carte items, batch production, and in-house baking
  • Plan and execute catering events, including menu design, preparation, and service logistics
  • Develop menus that are nutritious, diverse, and inclusive of dietary needs
  • Actively participate in food preparation and cooking, setting the standard for quality
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships
  • Monitor food and labor costs through effective planning and portion control
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all food offerings
  • Train staff on culinary techniques, food safety, and sanitation standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment
  • Respond to customer feedback and drive continuous improvement

What We're Looking For

 

Core Qualifications

  • Several years of experience in a kitchen or food service environment
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Strong hands-on experience in high-volume food service
  • Experience managing inventory, ordering, and kitchen operations
  • Current food safety certification and knowledge of sanitation standards

Experience & Skills

  • Advanced cooking skills across a range of techniques and cuisines
  • Strong understanding of food cost control, menu costing, and inventory management
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general technology

Preferred

  • Experience in a corporate café, hospital, or institutional setting
  • Experience supporting promotions or internal communications
