Positions Overview

IGT is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to help shape the future of software delivery and platform engineering within our Casino Systems business.
In this role, you will design, build, and evolve the platforms, infrastructure, automation, and developer capabilities that enable engineering teams to deliver software faster, more reliably, and at scale.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise, architectural thinking, and a hands-on builder mindset. You will work closely with software, DevOps, QA, and operations teams to simplify complex systems, improve developer productivity, and drive the adoption of scalable platform solutions across multiple products.

Responsibilities

•    Design and evolve platform architectures that improve developer productivity, reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
•    Build and maintain Internal Developer Platform (IDP) capabilities, reusable platform services, golden paths, and self-service engineering workflows.
•    Architect and implement cloud-native solutions using Kubernetes, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and modern software delivery practices.
•    Own the design, governance, implementation, and evolution of SDLC platforms and tooling, including source control, CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, deployment automation, security validation, and developer workflows.
•    Establish scalable deployment patterns using Argo CD, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, and automated release processes.
•    Drive infrastructure automation using Terraform, Ansible, and AWS cloud services.
•    Define and implement platform standards for observability, security, governance, and operational excellence.
•    Evaluate architectural trade-offs involving scalability, reliability, performance, maintainability, developer experience, and cost.
•    Produce reference implementations, reusable tooling, and automation that accelerate adoption across engineering teams.
•    Troubleshoot, document, and communicate complex platform and infrastructure challenges and drive long-term improvements.
•    Mentor engineers and influence technical direction through collaboration, expertise, and hands-on execution.

Required Qualifications

•    10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems, cloud platforms, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or related disciplines.
•    Deep expertise with Kubernetes, AWS, Infrastructure as Code, and modern software delivery platforms.
•    Strong experience with Terraform, Ansible, Argo CD, Helm, GitHub, Jenkins, and GitOps-based deployment models.
•    Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms.
•    Strong networking fundamentals including DNS, TLS, ingress, load balancing, and cloud networking.
•    Experience building reusable automation, platform services, and developer enablement solutions.
•    Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
•    Demonstrated ability to make architecture decisions and balance technical trade-offs.
•    Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for different audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience building and operating Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs).
•    Experience with Backstage or developer portal technologies.
•    Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio.
•    Experience with observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and OpenSearch.
•    Experience with security automation, policy enforcement, and DevSecOps practices.
•    Experience supporting highly available, regulated, or enterprise-scale software environments.

What Success Looks Like

•    Platform capabilities improve developer productivity, reduce operational complexity, and accelerate software delivery.
•    Reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-native platforms that support multiple product engineering teams.
•    Increased adoption of self-service engineering capabilities and standardized delivery workflows.
•    Technical leadership through architecture, implementation, and mentorship.
•    Practical solutions that simplify complex systems, reduce friction for development teams, and help the organization innovate and deliver with confidence at scale.
