Role Summary

We are looking for a highly experienced senior PostgreSQL Database Software Engineer to join our R&D team focused on building a new world class, cloud-based and multi-tenant solution for one of our core Lottery platforms. The successful candidate can expect to work from the ground-up on a multi-year R&D initiative in a fast-paced, Agile development environment. In addition to very strong technical skills, you should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as being capable of leading a high-performing team of developers as a key decision maker.

Responsibilities

Design, Develop and support the database components of our Cloud-Native applications and in an Azure cloud environment with a focus on multi-tenancy and micro-services.

Work collaboratively as a technical leader on a high performing, geographically dispersed R&D team which focuses on building highly performant, reliable and secure systems, with a focus on driving value for our product line and customers.

Contribute to application development on a ground-up large-scale, mission-critical system and be capable of leading and making key decisions for the team.

Qualifications 1

  • Understand the organization’s data to skillfully carry out IGT’s database design projects
  • Work closely with the CTO to implement effective and maintainable database coding practices that form an architectural foundation.
  • Work with product managers to ensure database design and code meets requirements.
  • Install and configure relational database management system on IGT’s database infrastructure (on-premise or cloud based deployments)
  • Handle the creation of new users, define roles and privileges and grant access to them
  • Assist application development teams to design databases to support IGT’s API’s and to assist with securely accessing databases
    • Work with front end developers to design databases to support company’s APIs.
    • Work with GIS analysts to implement geospatial processes, queries and reports

Qualifications 2

  • Track the performance of the databases and fix issues quickly to facilitate smooth functioning
  • Collaborate with DBAs to ensure efficiency of database code, integrity of data structures and quality of data content.
  • Collaborate with DBAs and data analysts to ensure database code is accurately documented.
  • Perform training as required of DBAs to support IGT”s database deployments
  • Use the best techniques for enhanced scalability and efficiency of large databases
  • Understand complex problems, devise solutions, and transform them into software requirements
  • Conduct data research and query large and complex datasets to provide the best data modelling
  • Participate as a member in Agile teams, and work with other team members to review user stories, estimate effort to build functionality supporting user stories, and participate in sprint reviews.

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years working as a database developer working with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Terraform, Postgres Flexible Server deployments in Azure
  • Experience with database administration and tuning tasks
  • Expert Level SQL, PL/pgSQL, including stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.
  • Knowledge of JSON and PostgreSQL support for JSON.
  • PostGIS proficiency and grasp of core geospatial concepts.
  • Ability to efficiently write database code without compromising data quality, privacy, or security.
  • Knowledge of database design principles, query optimization, index management, integrity checks, statistics and isolation levels
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and/or workarounds

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL clustering tools such as Patroni
  • Experience with PostgreSQL tuning tools such as pgBadger, pgTune
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. Apache Cassandra) and NoSQL support in PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Python, ETL, data transformation
  • Experience working with time series databases (e.g. KairosDB).
  • Experience with message queuing, full text indexing, and other other high performance data concepts.
  • Demonstrable experience working with huge, interdependent, complex datasets and data structures.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or relevant field with equivalent experience.
