Overview

IGT´s Legal Department has an exciting opportunity for an employment attorney. This attorney will provide advice and counsel to human resources professionals and other business partners in the U.S. on employment law matters, and will also manage a variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters in state and federal courts and administrative forums. This attorney is responsible for assisting the Associate General Counsel- Litigation & Employment and the human resources department in the management and handling of employment-related matters. The selected attorney will act with the highest level of integrity and business and personal ethical standards in all aspects of job performance. The role is based in Providence, RI.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support human resources and management on day-to-day employee relations matters and compliance, including recruiting, hiring, and compensation; employee discipline, performance management, terminations, and restructurings; anti-discrimination, harassment prevention, and non-retaliation; federal and state wage-hour compliance; leaves of absence and workplace accommodations; and internal investigations of potential violations of company policy
  • Minimize legal exposure by proactively reviewing existing practices, forms, contracts, and policies regarding employment matters, while considering business objectives and practicalities
  • Manage pre-litigation claims, settlement negotiations and mediations, and federal and state litigation, including management of outside counsel where support is needed
  • Develop training materials and provide training on employment law issues and employment-related policies and practices to human resources professionals and other employees
  • Establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, legal team members and other colleagues
  • Develop and deliver training on new and emerging issues relating to employment law matters
  • Perform other tasks as assigned from time-to-time by the Associate General Counsel- Litigation & Employment

Job Requirements Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of key U.S. employment laws, including but not limited to, Title VII, ADEA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EPA, NLRA, and state law equivalents
  • Ability to understand complicated laws and regulations and translate them into practical, business-oriented legal counsel
  • Experience in handling employment matters before federal, state courts and administrative agencies
  • Competence as a lawyer; ability to manage heavy workload in a high-pressure environment 
  • Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills within and across departments and externally; must be proactive in providing counsel to clients
  • Outstanding organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize deadlines
  • Laser-focus on client-service excellence by being highly proactive, responsive, adaptable, and team-oriented

Required Education & Experience:

  • Must have a JD degree from an accredited law school
  • Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of substantive employment law experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally recognized law firm
  • Prefer candidates with immigration experience
