Role Description

The IGT Legal Department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional who will provide general commercial law support, with a focus on review, negotiation, and drafting a wide range of commercial agreements, including technology supply agreements, tender contracts and partner agreements for our EMEA & APAC Lottery business unit. This business unit comprises jurisdictions in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. 

As part of the IGT Legal Department (which comprises approximately 60 people globally), you will provide legal support for the EMEA & APAC business teams operating in the Lottery sector.  You will work in a dynamic, collaborative, and high-performance environment, helping IGT manage a wide range of legal and business challenges. 
 

In the UK, the IGT Legal Team consists of 8 lawyers across offices in Manchester and London who support the IGT business units across EMEA & APAC. This position will be part of the Lottery Legal team and report directly to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in the US, located in Providence, Rhode Island. This role includes the management of 3 other lawyers based in the UK. This position is to be based in either our London (Liverpool St/Moorgate) or Manchester (Media City/Salford Quays) office. There is also the ability to work remotely for part of the week based on agreed working patterns. 

Responsibilities

  • Work in a fast-paced environment in collaboration with business partners, customers and other lawyers within the group to provide pragmatic commercial advice.
  • Work directly with managers in the EMEA & APAC business teams for the Lottery, providing day-to-day commercial contracts advice and strategic support.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and interpret a wide variety of B2B contracts with customers and partners in the region for the supply and licensing of national lottery systems, digital lottery products, content and related hardware and services as part of public or private tender processes.  
  • Identify and advise internal clients on legal risks, mitigation, pre-litigation disputes and resolving a wide variety of issues that arise in existing commercial relationships. 
  • Assist in the management of external legal counsel and supervision and development of other members of the team, including managing 3 other lawyers working in the Lottery legal team.
  • Contributing to global legal team projects and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • 10 years + PQE (law firm or in-house) (as a guide only; we will consider all candidates that demonstrate they meet our key requirements regardless of PQE)
  • Legal areas of expertise: Contract/Commercial law, Technology and Intellectual Property. 
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with a solution-oriented approach to legal issues.
  • Customer-oriented interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with large cross-functional teams (including representatives from finance, regulatory/compliance, operations and People & Transformation (HR)).
  • Ability to communicate legal concepts and issues effectively to internal business clients at all levels of the organisation and excellent written skills.
  • Personal energy to proactively address situations and adopt a positive approach.
